Indonesia - Deadly fire on crowded Ferry off Java..

About 427 people were brought to safety
A fire on a ferry in Indonesia has killed at least 11 people,, with scores more injured, some critically, officials say.
The fire broke out at around 0300 local time (2000GMT Thursday), soon after the ferry had left Merak port on Java island, heading for Sumatra.
Some 427 people were brought to safety and it is thought no-one is still on board.
Some of the survivors jumped off the ship wearing lifejackets.
The bodies of the dead and injured have been taken to a nearby hospital, transport ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan told Associated Press news agency.
Indonesian television showed firefighters on a boat near the ferry trying to extinguish the blaze with water cannons.
A vehicle on the ferry was believed to be the cause of the fire.
One lorry driver, Musaka, told Agence France-Presse: "It was very scary when the fire started as it was still very dark. A passenger bus on the vehicle area caught fire first and my truck also burned.
"I was able to save myself as I could grab a lifejacket. I quickly jumped off to the sea."
Ferries are a main source of transportation given Indonesia's thousands of islands, and accidents are common due to overcrowding and poor safety standards.
